So I’ve been trying it. It’s hard. I worked up Ninja to 17. I know it’s still a gimped sub, but I just couldn’t stand the dunes parties anymore. I had to go out and get something done that I enjoyed.
Turns out I don’t enjoy it too much.
I went to the recommended camp: Castle Z, the zone area to the Deeper section. Took me a while to figure out what they were talking about, but once I discovered how to get there, it’s relatively easy to get around. I’ve never had a lot of experience in Castle Z, so it’s been fun for me learning how to navigate there.
Anyway, I see my target: The elemental of the Demon Warlock. If you’ve never done Solo BLM around this level, here’s the camp. There’s 4 Demons (Aggro on Sight, of course. Link on Sight.) and an Ahriman (Aggro on Sound and Sight).
The problem isn’t so much the Demons, as I can generally pull without getting aggro from any of them. Their sight range is very shallow.
The problem is, your recommended camp spot is dangerously close to the Ahriman aggro zone. It’s rough trying to stay a little farther back in the hallway, but still being able to monitor the warlock and his elemental.
I pulled a few elementals and kill them just fine. I was thinking, “Boy. Why didn’t I start this crap earlier!” And then came resist city.
Now I don’t have slouchy gear. Dual-HQ Wands for +10 Int, Morion Tathlum, Full Seer’s+1 (except Boots, those are Garrison boots, the only boots with +Int between 1-41), Dual Morion+1 Earrings, HQ Mobhwa Neck, HQ2 Lv36 Rings (Wisdom? I forget..). I’ve literally got the Most Possible Int you can have at level 41, including HQ Pies, plus capped Elemental Skill. (I don’t have an Elemental Earring, due to them NEVER being up at AH… Maybe I need to go kill someone and take one?)
I’m fighting an Ice Elemental. Cast Fire2….9 damage. Cast Aero2…. 6 Damage. Cast Water2….6 damage. Hey look at me, I’m face down!
I went from having a 1500XP Buffer in 41, to being Level 40, with 2500TNL. I was DETERMINED to not suck and just grind it out. No matter what elemental it was, no matter what I fired off at it, I could just never do it. I decided that I need to be 42 with a decent buffer before I go back there. Fire 2 seemed to be the only nuke that would always land unresisted after that first time. I could always stick Fire 2 for 230ish damage, but every other nuke had intermittent resists. I’m waiting for Blizzard 2 now at 42, since everyone else says it helps. We’ll see what happens.
In other news, I’m now without a linkshell again. Since I came back to the game, I’ve been in 2 or 3 of my friend’s Socials, since I don’t really have the jobs or crafts at the moment for anyone else to care about me. Half of my old friends have quit within the last month, so as they quit, I’ve left shells and gone to others. I’ve now decided that shells are worthless if you’re just hanging in them for friends.
Still looking for a static. COP, Leveling, Farming… I really don’t care, I just want to meet some new people who actually are happy to have around. I guess that’s a lot to ask with my high job being 45 at the moment, but there’s got to be someone out there. Hell, I’d even join a static that just repeatedly does level30 ENMs or helps people with promies or whatever. I just want a purpose to FFXI. If I don’t find one soon, I might just quit, and that would suck.
