So I’ve finally done it. I’ve finally decided to start keeping track of my adventures in Vana’diel.
I started playing the game years ago, just a little while after CoP came out. I was an Elvaan, looking for glory, riches, and a pimpin’ hat. I found 2 of the 3, but never finished. Smithing 97. Fully maxed subcrafts. RDM 73. Thousands of hours grinding, leveling, crafting. After 2 years of playing, I decided that I had some other, pressing things to do in life, and got rid of my account. This was in 2006.
Then a year later, one of my best friends gets a hold of me. “So they’ve added all this new content. You should check it out!” So in May of 07 I began anew. Level 1 jobs. No advanced jobs unlocked. No money to buy gear with.
It was hard. I persevered. I borrowed some gil from a friend with a promise to pay him back using my extraordinary crafting skills, and I did within a few months. Got MNK to 18 to open subjob, got WHM to 20. And then my friend stopped playing. We strayed apart. I stopped playing a month or two later. So it was. I didn’t want to invest the time back in to get even remotely close to most of my other in game friends. They all had Multiple-75 jobs, where even in all my time before, I had only a 73RDM as my highest job. Here I was, with very cheap gear, low level and hungering for more, and nobody could help me.
Then February of 08 came around. I’d been playing Magic: the Gathering for the last few years, video games off and on, and was looking for a new game. Something with fun, excitement, adventure. And I spotted that Wings had just come out. And so the book turned to chapter 3.
As of today, I’ve got some level 40 jobs. I’ve worked hard to network some of my friends into forming Semi-statics to get around some of the pain of there being no real low-level parties anymore. I’m pressing and plodding.
And this will be my story.
